Women with disabilities are one of the most marginalized, under-served populations in the world, yet they offer tremendous potential for leadership and the ability to transform communities. DIWA realizes the potential women and Girls with disabilities have and is working to set stepping stones for their growth, participation and enjoyment of their rights as per relevant constitutional and policy provisions both nationally and internationally.
DIWA enjoys a membership of 11 Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs) in Africa countries who are both umbrella, national and regional organisations. Who we are?
PROGRAMMES
Capacity Development
This is where women structures capacity/knowledge and awareness of their rights, ability to influence policy, legislation and law is developed and their confidence built through the effective development of the networks.
Women Empowerment Program
This is the program where fundraising is done and allows disbursements of small grants to women DPO’s and structures for groups to conduct advocacy work and networking initiatives. Aims at empowering women/girls in projects such as rural livelihoods and inclusive education.
Human Rights & Advocacy
This is a program where lobbying and advocacy is conducted to effect changes on policies and practices that discriminate persons with disability more in particular women and girls with disabilities are done. Awareness, research and litigation support is also conducted.
